lost sheep.

Lo esencial es la búsqueda/The key thing is the search

 El arte como la filosofía

y la ciencia,

siempre se interrogan,

lo esencial es la búsqueda.

El viejo poeta no deja

de interrogarse asimismo

y al mundo por principio.

En sus postrimerías

las preguntas suelen ser

más cotidianas, banales,

aunque importantes

por su pragmatismo.

¿Dónde están mis lentes,

bastón, celular?

Esas pequeñas cosas

existenciales.

Art, like philosophy

and science,

is always questioning;

what matters is the search.

The old poet never stops

questioning himself

and the world by nature.

In his final years,

the questions tend to become

more ordinary, more trivial,

though still important

for their pragmatism.

Where are my glasses,

my cane, my cellphone?

Those small

existential things.

Esta palabra/This word

Esta palabra

no es propiedad

de nadie

y esa es su belleza.

Del primero que encuentre

algo en ella y establezca

su música personal,

los cien violines

que necesita el silencio

para ser escuchado

por sus fieles seguidores.

and that is its beauty.

To the first who finds

something within it

and shapes

its personal music,

the hundred violins

silence requires

to be heard

by its faithful followers.

Mi mundo es otro/My world is another world

 Mi mundo es otro,

diferente, distinto

al que dices ver cada día.

No lo niegas y las distancias,

lo acreditan, confirman.

Sería un error acoplar

dos cuerpos que van

en sentido contrario,

conscientemente

y sin disimulo.

Me recuerdas a dos

líneas paralelas.

My world is another world,

different, distinct

from the one you say you see every day.

You do not deny it, and the distances

prove it, confirm it.

It would be a mistake to join

two bodies moving

in opposite directions,

consciously

and without disguise.

You remind me of two

parallel lines.

 Uno no comprende

la utilidad de un buen bastón,

hasta que lo comienza a usar.

Objeto misterioso que nos conduce

por el buen camino, 

aparentemente,

a los casi ochenta años.

One does not understand

the usefulness of a good cane

until one begins to use it.

A mysterious object that guides us

along the proper path,

apparently,

at nearly eighty years of age.

Que nadie se ofenda/Let no one be offended

 Que nadie se ofenda si los muertos sobreviven

a los vivos y salen en las noches a reconstruir

con sus voces  el mortal silencio de estos años.

La muerte cuenta con sus propios recursos,

fabulosos sueños deslumbrantes.

Nadie es más ni menos en estas cicunstancias.

La muerte inspira acciones audaces, 

inesperadas respuestas  y no debieran confiar

en estas piedras heridas, humilladas,

ventanas sin paisaje,

escombros no reclamados,

patios sin infancia,

son tan jóvenes estos muertos,

que volverán victoriosos

al combate

Let no one take offense if the dead outlive
the living and step out at night to rebuild,
with their voices, the mortal silence of these years.

Death possesses its own resources,
its dazzling and fabulous dreams.

No one is greater or lesser
under such circumstances.

Death inspires daring acts,
unexpected answers, and they should not trust
these wounded, humiliated stones,
windows stripped of landscape,
unclaimed ruins,
courtyards emptied of childhood.

These dead are so young
they will return victorious
to the struggle.
