Si me preguntaran

y de hecho lo están haciendo,

cuál ha sido mi historia

en estas últimas décadas.

(Pensar en esos términos,

ya me parece un proyecto

demasiado ambicioso

para una persona e insignificante

para la propia Historia.)

Sin duda,

no lo pensaría dos veces,

aún cuando la memoria

es absolutamente arbitraria,

diría y digo:

son mis palabras.

If they asked me—

and in fact, they are—

what my story has been

these past few decades,

(thinking in such terms

already feels like a project

far too ambitious

for one person,

and far too insignificant

for History itself),

without a doubt,

I wouldn’t think twice,

even if memory

is utterly arbitrary,

I would say—

and I say it now:

my words are my story.
