asombrarnos, sorprendernos, sino cumplirse.

Accomplished Adventure
We are here, I almost always knew it, to undertake an adventure, the most extraordinary of our lives, and not just to be alone, to perhaps explore beyond the words of the innocent world of childhood. Space is infinite, and history can have a beginning and an end, approaching us unexpectedly as chance does, the passion of men and women in any age and time, suddenly. Dreams may come true and be nothing more than a fleeting reality, unexpectedly real, like a shooting star that only wishes to be imagined, a reflection of memory and the attention to words spoken at some moment. A real adventure accounts for our lives, perhaps it was dreamed before it occurred, perhaps it had memory, an unknown future, something more to tell us, unexpectedly, to astonish us, to surprise us, if not to be fulfilled.
El poema es pulsión
va avisando con su teclado interior,
busca su propósito
en unas cuantas palabras,
no se escribe para nadie más.
Oficio, oficio,
pide como un conjuro,
no se aventura sin antes ensayar
una y otra vez,
la nueva retórica que presentará
ante un desconocido lector.

así misma,
cuando es verdadera.

The Poem
The
verb bends its back
each time
it's asked for action,
and it simply obeys,
keeps moving
as if its voice betrayed the dread,
yet it remains present, active,
vibrant, and its infinitive is to love.
Verb tenses seem
to have had all the time
in the world to complicate,
to make their actions more complex,
in the most diverse tenses.
I ask:
is it a beast of burden, a slave yoke,
or a free verb?
Does every action generate a reaction?
The verb should only feel
free to act, to push the salon verse
that bores just by being heard.
a lo que has llegado,
a no saber si eres
o no eres,
existes o ya eres
un subproducto
de la ciencia ficción.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
Oh, reality,
what you have become,
not knowing if you are
or are not,
do you exist or are you already
a byproduct
of science fiction.
The Patience of the Mirror
The patience of the mirror seems infinite, one might say, as unshakable as the very image it receives every day, knowing it won't last forever, nor will it be able to hold onto it, even with its monk-like patience, without apparent beginning or end, surrounded by mute walls, by the silent marble, and those trees that frame any natural landscape. The reality of the mirror is to see you and see you again, with no other purpose than to update your image just as it is and continues to be as the days pass, with the inexorable passage of time, the life that begins with your best smiling portrait and will yield before the patient mirror, which resists time and does not hide the truth, before its eyes and duty to turn the page at each glance that the glass returns with careful wisdom, because the face loses the glow of the years and will not be able to hide its failure before time.

What figure, knight-errant,

La muerte

A Carrier Will Come
A carrier will come
with 40,000 dead
on its deck
through the great avenues,
where fashion showcases
its latest creations
and flatters with its immortal shine
the most demanding,
select buyers.
Death will ascend
to its new runway
and rise
to a dark sky,
it will not display
its dead flesh,
nor its profound,
more obscene pains,
to finally
rest in peace.

The tailor told his son,
don’t make a stitch without thread.
From that day on,
he learned that life
hangs by a thread.
Con esa palabra rota,
única, con que te he escrito
tantas veces, de mil maneras,
dicho, amor, sobrevive en ti,
lo que eres y siempre has sido.
Solo repito quizás un mismo poema,
digo, una y mil veces,
si fuera necesario.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
With that broken word,
unique, with which I have written to you
so many times, in a thousand ways,
I say, love, what survives in you
is what you are and always have been.
I only repeat perhaps the same poem,
I say, one and a thousand times,
if it were necessary.
Figurones y publicistas,
emperadores del mundo digital,
voceros entusiastas de un tiempo banal,
artífices de lo efímero y fugaz,
su espléndida retórica artificial,
invade de malezas el espíritu humano.
En pocas palabras humillan
la belleza íntima, incuestionable,
de las palabras.

Tango for an Influencer

poema,
las palabras
apropiadas,
justas, en su
orden,
ante el
mundo,
en los lugares apropiados,
una y otra
vez,
sin ningún
resultado
y ver
sonreír a la muerte
por los
pasillos,
en los
grandes salones,
pasearse
por las narices
del mundo como
si la paz
de los
muertos fuera la única
alcanzable.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
It takes more than just a poem,
the right words,
just, in their order,
before the world,
in the right places,
over and over again,
with no result
and see death smiling
through the corridors,
in the grand halls,
parading under the noses
of the world as if the peace
of the dead were the only
one achievable.
The old Franz watched himself age in the mirror and saw how his eyes distanced him more and more each day from the landscape and reality. Perhaps he didn't realize how his wavering world crumbled in sync with his distracted movements. Upon waking, he would cultivate a studied, expressionless, static smile. He was kidnapped by his own forgetfulness, but he continued to encourage his image for a campaign to which his survival instinct did not adhere despite his repeated blunders in public. Among friends, he would boast of his preparations for a proper Third World War, as if that act were the cherry on top or humanity's last supper. There won't even be a place for the statue of the unknown soldier, said the Prime Minister of a pacifist country, almost unknown on the map, tucked away like an iceberg broken off from a glacier. It was a sort of Greek-style prophecy, without a parachute, though the world lived on the edge of the abyss.
The old Franz, dressed in blue for ceremonies he called official, though he had already lost touch with reality, took short steps in a circle and repeated his handshake to the air. Like an elevator going up and down without passengers, his body seemed to land on no floor. The old Franz already inhabited limbo, and no one would rescue him.

Sobre las mismas palabras,
sigiloso, sin metáforas,
el poema escribe,
más bien cuenta
su única, pequeña historia,
que lo hará diferente.
Da sus primeros pasos,
deletrea el a b c
y vida a nuevas palabras.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
On the same words,
silent, without metaphors,
the poem writes,
rather tells
its own, small story,
which will make it different.
It takes its first steps,
spells out the a b c,
and gives life to new words.
Al otro lado de la piedra
La soledad

La escena
se repite así misma
No hay más paisaje
que la ruina
De un
presente inexistente
Un balcón
vacío mira al mundo
La foto que
estás mirando
En una ingrata epopeya
De un futuro

Es la imagen de la muerte.

El oficio
mantiene
viva
la palabra,
deja
respirar la página
en blanco,
ejercicio
puro, único,
del verbo.
Sobre una
realidad múltiple
el orfebre
trabaja su pieza,
la superficie

Rolando Gabrielli2024
La sombra es el tamaño
de la oscuridad que nos pertenece,
aún desde la idílica infancia
nos acompaña de manera natural
y nosotros atareados sin tiempo
para observar el más mínimo detalle
de nuestra vida cotidiana nos asombramos
con un mensaje anónimo repetido
hasta el cansancio y perdemos de vista
que en la búsqueda, curiosidad, instinto
encontraremos algunas respuestas
y dudas esenciales para seguir cuestionando
al mundo y a nosotros mismos,
a todo lo que se mueva,
sin una explicación, ni sentido.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
The shadow is the size of the darkness that belongs to us,
even from the most idyllic childhood
it accompanies us naturally,
and we, busy with no time
to observe the smallest details
of our daily lives, are amazed
by an anonymous message repeated
to exhaustion and lose sight
that in the search, curiosity, instinct
we will find many answers and add
essential doubts to continue questioning the world,
ourselves, everything that moves
without an explanation, without sense.
¿Hacia
dónde viaja la muerte
con tan poco que perder o ganar,
según sea
el caso, para lo cual
da casi lo
mismo,
porque no
hay lugar dónde encontrar
un sitio
para estar vivos y respirar,
como
garantía real sin tener que adjuntar
un
certificado de supervivencia
para saber si estás vivo o muerto
en vida?
Rolando Gabrielli2024
Where does death travel
with so little to lose or gain,
depending on the case, for which
it makes little difference, because there is no
place to find a spot
to be alive and breathe,
as a real guarantee
without having to attach
a survival certificate
to know if you are alive or dead
in life?
La memoria arrastra
a hurtadillas sin descanso
los viejos andamios del pasado.
Nos remite bajo la luna
o en la claridad del sol,
fielmente lo que hemos sido
y nos vuelve al camino
frente al ciego muro
que en el sueño
nos impide avanzar.
Rolando Gabrielli 2024
The memory drags
furtively and relentlessly
the old scaffolds of the past.
It takes us under the moon
or in the clarity of the sun,
faithfully reminding us of what we have been
and brings us back to the path
in front of the blind wall
that in the dream
prevents us from moving forward.
Palabra por palabra,
el poema es memoria,
presente y futuro.
Lo que fue en la despedida,
cae el atardecer,
hoy, presente
en el amanecer
de la rosa viva,
mañana es futuro,
a prueba del mismo tiempo,
que va y viene,
es, finalmente.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
Word by word,
the poem is memory,
present and future.
What was
in the farewell,
the sunset falls,
today, present
in the dawn
of the living rose,
tomorrow is future,
testing the same
time that comes and goes,
it is, finally.
Me observa apenas me instalo
frente a la computadora,
es una mirada casi obscena,
indagadora, inquisidora, intimidatoria,
tan íntima como depredarora de la voluntad.
Diría, más bien, me vigila, digo,
tiene un currículum deslumbrante
y recién comienza a operar,
esta en la flor de la juventud,
yo le coqueteo y le llamo Diva.
Y de sus sorprendentes capacidades
podemos esperar cualquier respuesta.
A mi alrededor, jóvenes intrépidos,
Rolando Gabrielli2024
It Watches Me as Soon as I Sit
It watches me as soon as I sit
in front of the computer,
a gaze almost obscene,
probing, inquisitive, intimidating,
as intimate as it is predatory of the will.
I would say, rather, it monitors me, I say,
it has a dazzling resume
and has just begun to operate,
it is in the prime of its youth,
I flirt with it and call it Diva.
And from its surprising capabilities
we can expect any answer.
Around me, daring young people,
hallucinating, they devour the world
with their gaze and earthly abandonments,
acting as guardians seduced
by this omnipresent consciousness,
that seems to smile at us with its candor
from beyond our understanding.
Proud and dazzled, they converse,
addressing this jewel of artifice informally,
as if they belonged
to the same family procreating the future,
a generation, I can almost assert,
of digital illuminati who, if they spoke,
we would know more about their digital dream,
a world that perhaps is not of this realm.
que es la poesía,
si nos bañamos,
ya no seremos
los mismos.
Rolando Gabrielli2024
And in this enormous river
that is poetry
if we bathe in it twice
we will no longer be the same.
