Mi historia es no tener historia,

soy un ghostwriter que repira

bajo el agua y sale a la superficie

de vez en cuando,

a ver como el aire mueve las hojas

y el paisaje permanece en el lugar.

Ese, de la palabra invisible,

casi un desconocido de sí mismo,

que ignora el silencio de los aplausos

y se deja llevar por las historias 

asignadas casualmente.

al vicio de sus palabras.

No sé cuanto he escrito

ni hace falta contar,

pero siempre ha sido,

en nombre de las palabras,

mías, inventadas, pensadas

para otros.

Escritas y leídas están,

donde pudieron llegar.

Tú, amigo lector,

eres el fin de todo

cuanto he escrito.

My story is the absence of a story.

I am a ghostwriter who breathes

beneath the water, rising

now and then to the surface

to watch the wind stir the leaves

while the landscape holds its ground.

I am the one of invisible words,

a stranger even to himself,

deaf to the silence of applause,

carried along by stories

assigned by chance

to the vice of language.

I do not know how much I’ve written—

nor does it matter—

but it has always been

in the name of words,

mine, imagined, shaped

for others.

Written and read they are,

wherever they managed to arrive.

And you, dear reader,

are the final destination

of all I have ever written.
